GENERAL ISSUES RELATED TO RELIABILITY AND SAFETY OF THE POWER INDUSTRY

Abstract
The issues as follows have been considered: reliability of electric power supply, assurance of system reliability as the most important constituent of human life support, efficient development of economics. The document reflects: contemporary condition of power engineering, package of means and actions providing for reliability of power supply of megapolises and large industrial areas (conglomerates). There have been formulated immediate, medium-term and strategic tasks to provide for reliability of power supply as well as a system of required minimum characteristics and indices of reliability. A list of programs for detailed elaboration of specific problems and areas of reliability assurance in power engineering is presented.

The document reviews issues of accidents at power engineering projects due to personnel’s fault. It reflects the status of operating personnel training on simulators, states suggestions on improvement of training quality of power plants and power grid personnel.
