Abstract
The article analyzes consumption modes of heat and electricity in some big cities; correlation is shown between consumption of electricity and heat by utility systems in a megapolis. It scrutinizes how failure to observe the temperature chart affects efficiency of heat supply systems.
ECONOMIC PROBLEMS IN THE ENERGY SECTOR

Abstract
The article studies issues of creating a strategy of a generation company in the competitive sector of the wholesale market of electricity and power (WMEP), i.e., in the ‘day-ahead market’ (DAM). A DAM oriented strategy is proposed for the generation company that is created on the basis of physical and financial withdrawal in a situation when demand dominates supply. The strategy is created on the basis of a simplified DAM model.

Abstract
Is considered one of the promising areas of alternative energy — heat dry rocks. Our research team have chosen the analytical method, as a methodology for assessing the competitiveness. The assessment is made by calculating the integral index of competitiveness heat dry rocks technology compared with the energy of wind and water on the example of one region of Russia — Krasnodar region.

Abstract
The international community, mainly the energy resources importing states, continue to claim against dual pricing for gas in Russia even after its successful WTO accession. The article discusses specificity of the Russian gas sphere along the WTO provisions on subsidies, state trading enterprises, maximum price control, and principle of non-discrimination. Russia as a member of WTO will likely have to face legal action against the use of dual pricing and pay countervailing duties for energy intensive products, in case its adverse effect is proved.

Abstract
When any metal intensive equipment for the NPP is designed, requirements of the technical regulations are strictly adhered to. At the same time, structural alloys often fail long before the end of their preset life expectancy. Their time before failure (TBF) is adversely affected by many particular processes of principal and secondary damages. Also, in operating conditions, kinetics of each process is, as a rule, non-linear in time, and is seldom defined by just one meaningful parameter. Besides, significant influence is produced by technical heritage data (first of all, density and structure of dislocations as well as the initial hydrogen concentration). However, regulations contain no recommendations as to equations of growth kinetics of controlled parameters (forecasting methods) and finding numerical values of limit state criteria (LSC), in case of both one or more processes. The article contains a parametrical method for assessment of condition and TBF control of the steel simultaneously exposed to hydrogen attack and fatigue.

Abstract
The article shows prospects of comprehensive application of heat pump plants and heat pipes. Substitution of electrical driven pumps for circulation of heat carrier to transfer the heat from its source to evaporator of the heat pump plant with the application of gravity forces reduces considerably consumption of fuel and energy resources (FER). A mathematical model is proposed that describes heat transfer from the low potential heat source via heat pipes and the heat pump plant to the end user, taking into consideration heat exchange between heat carriers. A calculation algorithm for the whole system is developed.

Abstract
The article presents design analysis results for temperature fields in high pressure heater (HPH) elements of a TPP. It determines the permissible number of switching cycles of the HPH based on cyclic strength of the housing walls and the flanged joint membrane. A correlation is found between the position of the aggregate state limit and the cyclic strength of the heater elements; conditions are described under which the required cyclic strength is achieved

Abstract
On experimental installation activity block SCR — catalyst made of renewed industrial wastes of thermal power stations is investigated. The expressions are received, allowing to calculate a constant of speed of process of restoration nitrogen oxides depending on factor of surplus of ammonia and temperature of flue gases.

Abstract
The article deals with prospects of finding the temperature of heat exchange surfaces by the progressive approximation method. A graphoanalytical method of finding the temperature of heat exchange surfaces is developed, which allows avoiding the labor intensive progressive approximation method, and which graphically shows the influence of geometrical and modal parameters of heat transfer upon optimal parameters of a heat exchanger.

Abstract
The article deals with issues of assessment of energy and ecological efficiency of gas fueled plants at energy facilities. Certain indicators are proposed that ensure a uniform approach to efficiency assessment of various devices that emit toxic components and carbon dioxide.

Abstract
The article analyzes the influence of water dispersion on heat exchanger in water cooling towers. A correlation is found between the heat flow and the drop diameter; a numerical experiment using the FLOW VISION package is carried out. Certain conclusions are made as to intensification of heat exchange processes in the cooling tower by increasing the drop dispersion.

Abstract
The article presents a comparison between the enthalpy and exergy methods for efficiency assessment of compressor stations (CS). It shows the advantage of the exergy method for direct measurement of CS operation effect (increased gas pressure) and the negative influence of insufficient gas cooling in the gas and air heat exchanger. The exergy method allows taking into consideration of different quality energy flows (electrical energy, mechanical energy, heat flows with different potentials) when preparing balances.
